Fonte das Lágrimas is a historic place. According to legend, in 1386, D. João I asked the hand of the Duchess Filipa de Lencastre in marriage while they were at the farm belonging to the Lencastre family, in Rio de Mouro. This spot was frequented by royalty and was a popular destination at the time. The Duchess, who would soon become Queen, was very sad at the thought of leaving her family and moving to the Palace. Seeing the Duchess with tears in her eyes, the King said, with an air of sympathy: “You will never run dry in your life, to remember the moments of this day. This fountain will conserve your tears.” To this day, the source has never dried up. We recommend a total immersive experience that transports us to these times through walks through the 15 hectares that make up the farm. Between wells, waterways, tanks and secret passages, there is much for us to marvel at!
