ABOUT THE PLACE
Welcome to a peaceful garden retreat just outside the historic town of Køge. This is a place for slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
The cottage is a private, freestanding Danish allotment house with its own garden, located within a small allotment community surrounded by open fields. There are neighboring gardens nearby, while the cottage and garden are entirely yours during your stay.
THE GARDEN
The cottage is surrounded by a long, lush garden with many cozy corners. Follow the last rays of the evening sun, find a shady spot on a hot summer day, relax in the hammock, or settle down with a book in one of the hidden seating areas.
There is a covered terrace, a barbecue, and several places to sit and enjoy the garden throughout the day.
At the far end of the garden, you’ll find a greenhouse with a dining table and seating for 4–6 people. It isn’t heated, but it’s a lovely sheltered place for dinner or a glass of wine on a cool evening.
Depending on the season, you may find apples, plums, cherry plums, grapes, rhubarb, fresh herbs, strawberries, blackcurrants, and redcurrants growing in the garden.
INSIDE THE COTTAGE
Inside you’ll find an open-plan kitchen and living area and one bedroom.
The sleeping arrangements are:
Bedroom with a 120 cm wide bed
Living room with a 120 cm wide sofa bed
A small daybed suitable for a child
The cottage has an open and simple layout. There are no interior doors, and the indoor toilet area is separated from the rest of the cottage by curtains. Please keep this in mind when considering whether the space is right for your group.
HEATING
For cooler days and evenings, there is a small electric heater that warms the cottage quite quickly.
For safety, the heater must be switched off overnight and whenever you leave the cottage.
The greenhouse is not heated.
WATER & SHOWER
Life here is intentionally simple, and the cottage does not have a mains water supply or hot running water.
Before your arrival, I’ll make sure the water containers are filled and ready for you.
The kitchen tap is connected to a water container with an electric pump, so you can use the tap normally until the container needs refilling. Fresh drinking water can be collected from the nearby community house.
There is no hot water from the tap. Water needs to be heated or boiled when hot water is needed.
There is also a private outdoor shower cabin. Water for the shower needs to be collected and heated before use.
The toilet is located inside the cottage and is flushed with collected rainwater.
THE AREA
The location gives you a mix of peaceful garden life, countryside, coast, and town:
1.5 km to a local bakery
2 km to the charming old town of Køge
2.8 km to the beach
6 km to Vallø Castle Park
The allotment community itself is surrounded by open fields, with forest and coastline also within easy reach.
GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING
This is not a conventional holiday home or a luxury stay. It is a traditional Danish allotment cottage with simple facilities, no mains water supply, no hot running water, and an open interior layout.
In return, you get your own cottage and garden, birdsong in the morning, dinners in the greenhouse, evenings spent chasing the last rays of sunshine, and a chance to experience a slower and simpler way of living.
If that sounds like your kind of getaway, you’ll feel right at home here.

I enjoy a simple and grounded lifestyle, where nature, aesthetics, and meaningful experiences matter more than luxury. I love gardening, cooking with fresh ingredients, spending time with friends, and creating cozy spaces where people can truly relax. I believe the best memories are made outdoors, around good food, quiet mornings, and genuine conversations. Hosting is my way of sharing a peaceful retreat with others who appreciate slow living and the beauty of nature.
