Accommodation description
Get a flying start to the day when you wake up to a new day of camping. Overnight in The Flying Tent. The tent hangs between three trees floating under the large beech crowns and is an ideal place to lose the ground connection a bit. When you approach the tent, it most closely resembles a UFO that is about to land. The tent is triangular and measures more than 4 m on each joint, so there is plenty of room for three adults or two adults and two children. The tent carries a full 400 kg. Below the tent, a cozy campsite has been created. Over the campfire you can prepare your meals. The tent hangs in a discreet corner of the square under large beech trees adjacent to an old garden. You have to lift up the leaves and you have to show the way to find the Flying Tent. It's an adventure. The campsite is close to the bike path, so it is obvious to arrive by bike During your stay in The Flying Tent, you can rent a camp gear box, which contains pots, pans, saws, axes and whatever else is needed for primitive camp life, so it is possible to arrive on foot or by bike without having to lug too much gear with. You can find firewood in the windbreak or buy a wheelbarrow.

Secret tip
At Birkelund Camping & Outdoor, we do something for biodiversity. We can not save the whole Earth by our little effort, but it is important to keep in mind that we can each make a small effort, which all in all turns into a big effort.

Your host 0.0I have extensive experience in the outdoors. Today I own Birkelund Camping & Outdoor, which I am trying to pull in a new exciting direction. With me you can find accommodation in a traditional shelter, in the Flying Tent, in the cabin "The 8th Wonder" or perhaps an original Kyrgyz yurt? The cabin and yurt can also be rented in winter. Birkelund Camping & Outdoor was established back in 1960. Back then with the name Tarm Camping. Here, the focus has always been on a good and calm atmosphere. The entire square is surrounded by wide sheltered fences, which provide good shelter from the otherwise harsh westerly wind. In recent years, in order to meet the outdoor segment and more foreign tourists, many changes have taken place at the campsite to become more modern. We think about biodiversity and leave unused areas untouched. We do upcycling projects and a few years ago built a cabin from recycled materials. In 2023, a shelter will also be built from used materials. At the entrance you will find the box for collecting glasses. If you have a pair of used glasses, hand them in here, and with the organization "Bedre syn til Afrika" they will be sent to Africans who cannot afford to buy a pair of glasses. In 2023, there is a further focus on reducing paper consumption. You cannot get tourist brochures made of paper. At the entrance, it will be possible to scan QR codes for the most popular attractions. It is also at the entrance that you will find QR codes for a lot of walking tours. Many of the trips go out in a Natura 2000 area. Skjern Enge is the lower part of Skjern Å which in the years 1999 – 2003 was recreated with meandering streams, wet meadows and lakes, after it had been straightened out in a large land reclamation project in the 1960s. Skjern Å is also popular with anglers. 2022 was a record year with 1912 salmon caught in the Skjern Å system. 68 salmon over 100 cm were caught. However, the record is old: The largest salmon ever caught in Denmark was caught in Skjern Å. The salmon, which weighed no less than 26.5 kilos and was 136 cm long, was caught by D.C. Dinesen in 1954.
