Åkrafjorden Glamping - Bjødnasete

Max. 3 people per unit - Size 23 m2
Accommodation, Glampsite
Accommodation description
The dome "Bjødnasete" is located in the middle of the mountain shelf Hildleren, right out on the edge towards the sea. It is surrounded by spectacular mountains that rise more than 700 meters into the air, and with a fantastic view over the innermost part of the beautiful Åkrafjorden. Here you can experience a rich bird life with many different species. If you're lucky, you might even see an eagle. In the fjord below, both whales and killer whales have been observed, in addition to the fact that the fjord has plenty of porpoises. Even if you are in the middle of nature, it is only a 10-minute walk to get to the dome. The path is steep and narrow so this dome is not well suited for people with reduced mobility. The dome is sheltered from the village, so here you really get the feeling of having the wilderness all to yourself. "Bjødnasete" is named after a formation in the mountain right near the dome. It is shaped like the butt of a bear with two paws on the sides. The fable said that Bjødn (local dialect) sat here, looking out over the fjord and scouting for the salmon that came in and were going up to spawn in the Fjæraelven. But this place was not just a fable, but was actually used for sprat fishing. As is well known, the spring is located in the innermost part of the Åkrafjorden, and is thus where the sprat ends up fleeing from all its natural enemies. So they stood scouting for the shoals of sprat up here, and sent signals to the nota boats about where the shoals were, so that they could get the best casts. There is an option for 1 extra bed, for an extra charge of NOK 490. Each dome has a toilet located 10 m from the dome and a refreshing cold outdoor shower. Feel free to buy one of our special food baskets for a truly relaxing all-inclusive stay. ATTENTION Dogs or other pets are unfortunately not allowed in the domain. Good hiking shoes are recommended, and pack a rucksack!

    About the place and area

Description of my place and location

Our domain is located on the edge of the mountain shelf "Hidleren", surrounded by spectacular mountains that rise 700 meters up. Here you have a fantastic view over the beautiful Åkrafjord.

It only takes 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot up to the Domain. The path is steep and narrow, and is not suitable for the disabled. It is recommended with good footwear and preferably hiking clothes.

The domain is completely sheltered from the village Fjæra, so here you really get the feeling of having the wilderness to yourself.

There is room for 2 people in each dome. There is a large double bed, with the possibility of 1 extra bed for an extra. Do you want food for your stay? Then you can order this. We offer breakfast package and various tapas packages. Here we have a good collaboration with Åkrafjordtunet which offers good local ingredients.

Our domain is equipped with a toilet, a cooling outdoor shower in the open nature and a wood stove. Do not be afraid that it will get cold in the winter, the wood stove keeps you warm.

There are also opportunities to boil water on primus, coffee and tea are just to supply themselves. Do you like playing games? We have of course equipped the domain with both yatzy, deck of cards and other games.

Find peace and enjoy the beautiful nature you are surrounded by. Here you can experience a rich bird life with many different species. If you are lucky you can and observe eagle.

Do you want to surprise your loved one or go on an adventure with your friends? Then Åkrafjorden Glamping is the perfect place. Here you can completely relax, or take advantage of the various activities in the area. There are activities for both summer and winter.

In the same way as many other settlements around Norway, there are countless place names on Fjæra for every small area. Many have natural explanations, such as "Piravikjo", "Kobbesteinen" for example, while others have been named after what it looks like, such as "Stora Rævo" and "Litle Rævo", which is located just below "Hidleren", and which has been given their names after a certain body part. Our domain is named after some of these local place names.

"Padl" got its name from the boulder that is right next to the dome. There were several places that had the same name, "paddle", and all were such smaller boulders. It is a bit uncertain what kind of word this comes from. When we were to get approval from the municipality and the State Administrator to establish a domain on "Hidleren", one of the challenges was that the whole of Fjæra is located in a so-called caution area for NVE's landslide and landslide maps. And again, if you stand on Fjæra, then you understand why.

The mountains extend 700 meters straight up on all sides, so it is natural that here one had to get expert help to analyze and investigate the risk of possible landslides. We engaged archaeologists who made a very comprehensive report on the danger of landslides. And the conclusion was that this boulder works as a natural landslide protection, and shields the "Hidler" from landslides from the high mountain sides. So we can safely say that our entire project was saved by "Padl", and then it was only natural to call the first verdict after this.

"Bjødnasete" is named after a formation in the mountains right near the dome. It is shaped like the butt of a bear with two paws on the sides. The fable said that here sat Bjødn (local dialect), and looked out over the fjord and scouted for the salmon that came inland, and which was going up to spawn in Fjæraelven. But this place was not just a fable, but was actually used for sprat fishing. As is well known, the shore is located in the innermost part of the Åkrafjord, and is thus where the sprat ends up in flight from all its natural enemies. So they stood scouting for the shoals of sprat up here, and sent signals to the seine boats about where the shoals were, so that they could get the best casts.

Each of the domains also has its own Oak tree as its nearest "neighbor", and they have been there for many years. The one in front of "Bjødnasete" is over 200 years old, and stands on a small shelf just below the dome. Here you can take a shower more or less inside the branches of this wonderful old oak. Next to "Padl" is the younger oak, which "only" is approx. 120 years old. Here you can take the morning shower right under the oak itself, with a fantastic view over the fjord.

These trees are also important for the rich squirrel population up here, which you are almost guaranteed to encounter. There are also a good number of eagles on the mountain tops around Fjæra, and they often take a little "shopping trip" down to get some food. Deer and stag are plentiful in the area. Maybe you are lucky enough to be visited by them?
