Secret tip
Verdal municipality is located in Nord-Trøndelag, and consists of six parishes. Verdalselva is considered one of Norway's best salmon rivers and the municipality's highest mountain is Løymundhatten, with its 1090 meters above sea level. If you travel on foot, it takes around two days, while you reach the top in one day on skis. Verdal is also known for its rich cultural life and many of the country's actors have been part of Verdal's amateur theater community. Verdal is a historic municipality and you can find traces of people dating back to the Stone Age. Here there are remains from both the Iron Age, the Bronze Age and the Middle Ages, and in Hallemsmarka there is a unique collection of relics from the Iron Age. Discoveries have been made in the burial ground that show how they lived in the area, in the form of weapons, gold-plated metal and glass that had a high status at the time. Verdal is perhaps best known for the battle at Stiklestad in 1030, where Olav the Saint was killed. If you are traveling to Verdal, you should absolutely stop by the Stiklestad National Cultural Center to get to know the Norwegian historical heritage. Museum facilities, old houses and the outdoor play about Saint Olav are among the attractions. Stiklestad church, built where Saint Olav fell, is also worth a visit. If you are interested in golf, you should visit the Stiklestad golf club north of the center of Verdal. The course is ideally located with a view over the Trondheimsfjord, and if you come in winter you can play golf in your own golf simulator! Could you imagine experiencing Verdal from the air? Go sightseeing by helicopter and look out over the coast and mountains - such a trip gives completely different impressions to those you get from the ground! If you are going on holiday to Verdal, you can easily get here either by train via the Nordlandsbanen, or by bus along the E6. If you are going to fly to Verdal, you can travel to Trondheim airport, Værnes, which is approximately 60 kilometers away. Verdal is known as the place where all the lottery millionaires come from. Take a trip and see if maybe your luck is contagious!
