About the accommodation
De Schutkooi consists of four charming cottages located in the vibrant heart of the Maasheggen region, each with its own terrace and views of the surrounding landscape. Three of the cottages are compact, tastefully furnished tiny houses; the fourth is a spacious Tiny House XXL, offering extra space and comfort for those looking for a little more. One tiny house overlooks the forest, where the greenery extends all the way to the front door. The other cottages offer panoramic views of meadows and open fields. Here, you'll stay in the heart of the Maasheggen region, a centuries-old landscape recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. The tranquility is palpable, nature is close by, and yet Nijmegen and Venray are just half an hour away.
About the farm
De Schutkooi is part of an organic farm on a natural mound in the floodplains of the Meuse River, where people work and live with care. On the farm, we offer daytime activities for people who benefit from structure, peace, and a meaningful way to spend their days. This gives the place a genuine, warm atmosphere that guests immediately notice. Our accommodations are carefully designed and furnished, offering comfort and style. Guests appreciate the tranquility, the atmosphere, and the feeling that everything is just right here: small-scale, personal, and connected to nature.
About the neighborhood
The Maasheggen area is one of the oldest cultural landscapes in the Netherlands. A mosaic of hedgerows, pollard willows, flower-filled meadows, and narrow paths, shaped by centuries of collaboration between man and nature. As a UNESCO biosphere reserve, it is unique, not only in the Netherlands but also internationally. From De Schutkooi, you can walk or cycle straight into nature without having to plan routes. Just go, see, and slow down. For those who enjoy walking, there are several nearby trails, including the most famous long-distance hiking trail in the Netherlands, the Pieterpad. For those who want to vary their experience, the towns of Cuijk, Nijmegen, and Venray are all within half an hour of the accommodation, convenient for a visit to a museum, the cinema, or a drink on a terrace without having to miss the tranquility of the countryside.
