Quinta da Dourada / River and Silence

Whether you are hiking, relaxing or strolling through the typical Alentejo villages, Quinta da Dourada will quickly familiarize you with the ways of Portalegre in Portugal. The dog-friendly site is located on a farm in the Serra de S. Mamede Natural Park, a protected area with mountains and regular starry skies. In fact, the owners of Quinta da Dourada say that one of the first things many guests proclaim is: 'Are there so many stars in the sky?' With its peaceful atmosphere, pure air and starry sky, this is a privileged place to lie down and admire the Milky Way when conditions are right. Needless to say, you should get plenty of rest here. This is exactly what Nuno Malato Correia intended when he began to reconvert the family's property to its current location. This is not to say that there is nothing to do on the retreat. On the contrary, there is an outdoor pool and animals, a fountain and a stream to stroll around. When you're not relaxing on site, there are hiking trails along the slopes and plains, with the highest point at 1025 meters above sea level. Take it to a cellar or oil mill; there are many within walking distance of the site.

The area is also excellent for those who want to taste the local cuisine, with regional specialties such as lamb stew, Boleima cake or Elvas plums available in towns such as Portalegre (15 minutes by car).
