My partner and I set off for Sweden to take a break from everyday life, reconnect with nature and enjoy each other's company. It became a road trip with two stops, and this is my story about the second night.
After a cozy first night in a magical tiny cabin in Furudal, we drove further north to Sorsele in Västerbotten. The drive was scenic, and we were even lucky enough to spot reindeer along the way.
When we arrived at the tipi, our host took us on a great snowmobile ride across the frozen lake out to the tipi, which sat on its own little island. In summer you can reach the island by boat.
Despite the cold, the tipi's wood stove kept us warm and comfortable. We spent the evening by the fire, explored the island, and ended the day by warming up in the sauna before taking a bracing dip in the ice-cold lake. Then we curled up inside the tipi by the little wood stove and fell asleep to the sound of crackling wood.
It wasn't just the tipi. It was the feeling of having a whole island to ourselves, the snowmobile ride across the ice, and the calm that settled in as darkness fell.
The wood stove kept us warm even in freezing temperatures, and going from the warm sauna to the ice-cold lake is something I'll never forget.
We mostly stayed on the island, during our one night stay. We spent some time exploring the island on foot, eating by the fire and taking a few turns in the sauna. If you want to venture a little further, there's plenty of wilderness to enjoy around you.
