My igloo getaway: A trip to Yggdrasil Igloo

My partner and I escaped to Yggdrasil Igloo in Skåne for a relaxing summer break. We paddleboarded on the lake, watched sunsets from the terrace and had dinner delivered under the open sky.

My partner and I took a break from the stress and pace of city life with a trip to Yggdrasil Igloo in Skåne, Sweden. We paddleboarded, cooked under the open sky, played board games and watched the most incredible sunsets.

The peaceful surroundings made us feel at ease immediately, and we knew straight away that this place would give us everything we had been dreaming of, and more.

Our trip started with a comfortable 1 hour 15 minute train ride from Copenhagen to Höör station, where our host kindly offered to pick us up. After a short drive through lush fields, we arrived at the beautiful property. The igloo was perfectly positioned by the water, surrounded by nature, and immediately gave us that sense of seclusion and calm we were after.

Our host gave us a tour and promised to return at 6 pm with the dinner we had ordered. We settled in quickly, captivated by the panoramic views inside the beautifully designed and fully equipped igloo.

As the evening sun warmed the terrace, we lit the barbecue and cooked the burgers from our order. The evening wound down with backgammon, a stunning sunset and nothing but nature around us. The next morning we woke up to that beautiful view of the water straight from the bed, and enjoyed breakfast with freshly baked rolls, croissants and coffee delivered right to the door.

What we loved most

The igloo was thoughtfully designed from top to bottom. The glass roof and large panoramic windows gave us views you rarely get to experience, and the facilities were modern and comfortable with heating, electricity, a toilet and even natural cooling from the lake below.

The combination of meal delivery, paddleboarding and a private terrace with a barbecue made it something genuinely special.

Things to do

Get out and explore the surroundings

Take a walk along the water and discover the forest and the other igloos, each tucked away in their own private oasis. Grab a paddleboard, included with your stay, and head out onto the lake for a refreshing paddle with stunning views. In the evening, fire up the barbecue on the terrace and enjoy your meal surrounded by nature.

Three things I'd tell a friend

Pack light

You don't need to bring much. Do pack something warm for the cooler evenings, especially if you plan on spending time outside on the terrace.

Note: no fridge

If you bring your own food, there is no refrigerator. There is, however, a clever opening in the igloo floor that gives you access to a naturally cooled space via the lake – it works really well.
