Villmarks Tårnet - TreeTop Fiddan is a true treetop cabin built in the treetops along a moose path by the shores of Svartevann.
At the end of the marsh lies Fiskekroken, a tiny forest pond with perch that you can try to fish for dinner. The location far from both people and roads describes the name of the cabin and the building style very well – this is truly in the heart of the southern wilderness. Here you will definitely find peace and tranquility for your soul and mind!!
The cabin itself, about 20 m2, is built high up in the treetops of Villmarks Tårnet, and together with the loft, it makes up the 2 upper floors. From here, there is a great view of both lakes. The beds are handmade from birch logs with comfortable mattresses. A triple bunk bed, a double bed, and a short single bed – a total of 6 sleeping places. If desired, an additional person can sleep in the hammock or on the small sofa, so the total capacity is 7 guests.
The kitchen is equipped with what is needed to prepare a fine meal. The stove and refrigerator are gas-powered, and there is a great wood stove with a cooking plate and oven that adds extra flavor to the food. The dining table has 6 chairs, and from the sofa corner, you have a panoramic view over Svartevannet.
Emphasis has been placed on creating a true "back to nature" experience. Villmarks-Tårnet is clad with birch paneling and illuminated with candles. The flames from above provide a cozy flickering light before you crawl into bed, as you must use wood to keep warm in the cold season. The only technical device here is a battery pack with USB output for charging mobile phones and a couple of lamps.
Rainwater is collected in a tank in the loft, which serves as washing water in the kitchen and in the sink. If the rain is absent, water is pumped up from the stream. In frost, washing water from the stream must be carried up in cans. Drinking water from the farm is delivered in plastic cans.
On the veranda, it is airy and nice with a good view. Here you will find tables and benches, and a bird feeder where small birds and squirrels from the forest like to hang out. Moose, deer, and roe deer actually show up often. Especially if you stay still and are up early, the chances are good to see wild animals. On several occasions, cranes have been observed. Ducks, geese, and swans thrive well in Svartevannet, which is shallow and nutrient-rich. In spring, the capercaillies play their dance, and they can be heard a kilometer away.
Under the cabin is the wood shed with a workbench and a ladder up to a kind of barn, so there are a total of 4 floors! There are hammer, saw, nails, and planks for free use for anyone wanting to make a birdhouse or perhaps a small boat to sail on the water. From the barn, you can jump out onto a net that is stretched between the trees. Fun for the kids to play on or as airy relaxation for the adults.
At the edge of the dock, you will find a Wilderness SPA with a hot tub and sauna, both of which have spectacular views over Svartevannet. Both the hot tub and sauna are heated with wood. This quickly becomes the favorite spot when it’s a bit chilly to sit outside. The outdoor shower is nice to cool off in after finishing a sauna session.
On the forest floor lies the campfire area with sturdy tables and benches. Campfires and grilling are popular and an important part of the nature experience. Bring good grilling food or buy organic meat from Fiddan Øko Gård.
The outdoor toilet has a warming polystyrene seat with a panoramic view towards Langemyra, making it easy to daydream while sitting behind the door with your heart in it. The building is designed to make the toilet as odor-free as possible with double composting chambers and straw walls.
From the parking lot, you have 2 options to get to Villmarks-Tårnet.
1. Walk the path along Svartevann through the pine forest. Distance: 350 meters
2. Row or paddle across Svartevann with a canoe or rowboat. Distance 300 meters
Canoes and rowboats are available for free use, and there is a dock by the cabin to tie up the boat.
Everything in and around Villmarks Tårnet is mainly built from materials from the forests of Fiddan, much of it is actually sourced less than a stone's throw from the cabin. Sustainability and local or reused materials have been a common thread throughout the entire building process.
