The Forge is an architect-designed bedroom cabin, where large glass surfaces from floor to ceiling are carved into a large stone. The stone, which was once left here on the Lofnes farm during the Ice Age, is thus part of the room and provides a rustic and very special atmosphere. The bed is made of timber from the forest and one sleeps on a 160cm wide high-quality mattress. Together with a sleek Scandinavian interior design and beautiful lighting, this offers an experience unlike any other. The floor is made of concrete with comfortable electric underfloor heating, and from the large comfortable bed, one looks out over the fjord and mountains, at the starry sky – and sometimes the northern lights. Outside, sheltered by the forest, there is a bathtub where one can lie in warm water and enjoy the tranquility around. The bedroom cabin The Forge can be used year-round and provides a private and unique glamping experience with high comfort.
The name The Forge comes from an old smithy that once stood here. Traces of the blacksmith's work are still visible, and here old craftsmanship meets modern architecture in a completely unique way. The old barn is open for our guests, and here you can fetch firewood for both the stove and the campfire. At Lofnes, there is a beautiful and old cultural landscape, and our guests can enjoy large parts of the property.
From the bedroom cabin The Forge, a short staircase leads down through the apple orchard to your own private apartment. There, large windows from floor to ceiling provide views over the fjord and mountains. In winter, one can sit by the stove, hear the wind outside, and read a good book from our library. The bathroom is top modern, the kitchen is well equipped, and the bedroom in the apartment (if you are a party of three or four people) has a 150cm wide mattress with very high comfort. In the garden, our guests have their own sheltered area with a seating group and fire pit – all with magnificent views. Great emphasis has been placed on completed design details both indoors and outdoors.
Hidden and private in the forest right behind the bedroom cabin The Forge, there are two antique bathtubs that can be filled with warm water. One can lie in a warm bubble bath, look at the sky above, and enjoy the silence of the forest. From the bathtubs in the forest, one can walk straight into The Forge.
If you want this experience, you can book it when you are on site. The price is 300 kr, which also includes an extra towel.
Around the farm, nature is close by. The majestic mountain Hornelen, Northern Europe's highest sea cliff, rises on the other side of the fjord and is visible almost wherever you go. Hiking trails start right at the door, and the starting point for Hornelen is only a few minutes away by car. It is also a short distance to places like Grotlesanden, Vetvika, Ålfotbreen landscape protection area, and Kalvåg. The area has a lot of cultural history, including the petroglyph field Vingen, where guided tours take you 7000 years back in time.
It is easy to get to Lofnes. The fast boat from Bergen stops in the village, and we can drive you to and from the pier. For those arriving by car, there is free parking and access to an electric car charger.

Meet your host,
Gunnhild
Host since 2024
In 2021, we — Gunnhild and Steffen Lofnes— moved back to Steffen’s birthplace Lofnes, after more than 30 years living in Bergen, a big city by Norwegian standards. After the children moved out, the dream of a quiet life close to nature, spending more time outdoors, and developing the potential of the property made returning “home” an easy choice. Steffen is a marine biologist, while Gunnhild is a preschool teacher. We are adventurers at heart and have spent years backpacking around the globe, including several years living in the United States. Through our family-run company, Hornelen Panorama, we now welcome guests and travelers from all over the world to Lofnes. We live in the main house on the property, and as your hosts we are always available if you need help or would like tips and recommendations about the area. Don’t miss our “off the beaten track” advice, which can make your visit even more memorable. As we also cultivate our fields and forests and catch our dinner in the fjord, you may see us around the property during your stay.
You’ll receive the exact address once your booking is confirmed. To ensure a smooth arrival, we recommend checking public transport schedules in advance.
If you’re arriving by car, free parking is available at the glamping site.
