The Captain's House
Cabin · 9 guests
The Captain's House was originally built for the local sailor Einar Haugland. He sailed the seven seas in his youth, and while living here in this house, he worked as captain on the Skibladner – the world's oldest steam-powered paddle steamer still in regular service. Today, the house has been renovated in a beautiful maritime style, while also being upgraded with all modern amenities. On the ground floor, there are two large living rooms: a sitting room with sofas and a TV, and a dining room with seating for about 10 people. A fully equipped kitchen is conveniently located right next to the dining room. Both the dining room and the sitting room have efficient wood-burning stoves, as well as an effective heat pump to maintain a steady temperature around the clock. On the second floor, you’ll find 4 large bedrooms with a total of 9 comfortable beds. This floor also features a large bathroom with a shower, 2 washbasins, a washing machine, and a dryer. You have free access to wireless Internet throughout the house. Enjoy life in the countryside with a wonderful view over Mjøsa! About Evjua, Totenvika, and Mjøsa Evjua is idyllically located on the shores of Mjøsa, surrounded by the beautiful nature of the vegetable farming village of Totenvika. Here, you can enjoy a peaceful environment, charming cultural landscape, and a proximity to the water that creates a truly unique atmosphere. Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake, offers fantastic sunsets, fresh freshwater, and a rich wildlife. Totenvika is known for its local farm products, cozy farm roads, and great hiking opportunities – perfect for a relaxing, nature-filled holiday. Among the activities, you’ll find everything from great mountain hikes to Hervenknappen (784 meters above sea level) to fishing in Mjøsa right from your own veranda. You can also watch the legendary D/S Skibladner, the world’s oldest paddle steamer in regular service, glide past the veranda during the sailing season. You can explore the Strandstien along the water, take walks on the idyllic farm roads winding between the farms in Totenvika. In the winter season, you’ll find over 100 km of excellent cross-country skiing tracks on Totenåsen, as well as a paradise for ice fishermen on Mjøsa when the ice has set!
