Our bell tent is nestled amongst the wild terraces of olive and fig trees which line our river. You will be off-grid, but with solar lighting and USB charging, so if wild camping is for you, why not allow yourself a little bit of luxury on your Portuguese adventure.
Listen to the birds and watch the bubbling river whilst having a drink on your own private terrace. Cool down with direct access to the river, and you have sole use of the glamping area.
Situated in the foothills of the mountain town of Marvão, and a small drive from the lively town of Castelo de Vide, we are a farm of 28 hectares with olive terraces, ancient cork trees, willows, elder and ash trees.
We have a wild river to explore, and our mountain to climb for that sunset beer.
The bell tent is a generous 5 metres, and the door and all 4 windows are complete with mosquito nets. There is a very comfortable kingsize bed, feather pillows and all the linen you need. There are hand and face towels for your comfort, plus large ones for after those river dips. There are portable LED bedside lights, a headtorch, and a power bank. Relax on the 2 loungers on one of the lower terraces, or at the outdoor dining table and benches near the tent.
There are no cooking facilities provided at the tent, but we do provide plates, mugs/glasses, cutlery for your picnics. We do ask that there are no naked flames during the high temperature season please, and we can provide a list of wonderful local restaurants and bars for your delight.
Although you are off grid, the farm is totally solar powered, so there is access to a kettle, a fridge, and charging points/power outlets if needed, very nearby up at the workshop.
This is wild camping, but, we do provide a basic compost loo and a camping shower.
Access to the quinta is down a narrow, winding track which is a bit bumpy, but suitable for cars and small vans (such as a VW camper).
Dogs are allowed, but are to be kept on a lead to protect the other animals on the quinta.
Watch out for our visiting cows, otters, mongeese, eagles, and visiting migratory birds and butterflies. Sit and look up at the dark night skies and amazing stars. Come in Spring and see the wild flowers that pop up all over the quinta. Or come in October and help us pick our olives!
The natural park of Serra de São Mamede is rich in local history, scenery and biodiversity. The area is excellent for walking, mountain biking, bird watching and visiting Neolithic tombs and Roman ruins. There is paddleboarding at the dam, the railbikes which make use of the disused railways lines, or horseriding along the old smuggling paths, that the area is famous for.
The local area has many restaurants (including a vegan one) and many bars -including a craft ale bar in the next town. There is a small grocery store nearby, various weekly markets, and large international supermarkets further afield.
There are also many festivals to come and enjoy, such as FIMM the International Music Festival in July and the Chestnut Festival in November, both in the beautiful castle town of Marvao.
We look forward to welcoming you here!

If you are looking for some luxury on your Portuguese camping adventure, we are here to welcome you! Originally from UK, we are now making the Alentejo our home with our fuss-loving moggy! Our valley is still a small piece of untamed Portugal, with wild swimming in the river, and a 360 degree view over the mountain. Its peace and quiet is amazing, and the 'dark' night skies and stars, a marvel. We look forward to welcoming you to share it all.
You’ll receive the exact address once your booking is confirmed. To ensure a smooth arrival, we recommend checking public transport schedules in advance.
