Best Glamping in Scandinavia: Denmark, Norway & Sweden
In this article

Scandinavia is one of the best regions in the world for glamping, and planning a trip across more than one country is easier than most people expect. Denmark, Norway and Sweden each have their own character: rolling coastline and hygge in Denmark, dramatic fjords in Norway, deep forests and lakes in Sweden. I helped start one of Denmark's first glamping stays back in 2018, and I have picked my favourites in each country below, based on real guest reviews.

Best glamping in Norway

Norway is where glamping meets genuinely dramatic scenery. Fjords, mountains and long coastlines mean the view from your bed is often reason enough to book. Eastern Norway around Oslo is the easiest to reach, while the west coast fjords and the far north offer something more remote. You can browse all glamping stays in Norway here.

Best glamping in Denmark

Denmark is small and flat, which makes it easy to combine a glamping stay with several regions in one trip. You will find dunes and heathland in Jutland, forests and fields on Zealand near Copenhagen, and quiet islands scattered through the belt. You can browse all glamping stays in Denmark here.

Best glamping in Sweden

Sweden is the quiet one of the three, in the best way. Thousands of lakes, deep forests and a long coastline mean you are rarely more than a short drive from somewhere worth staying. Stockholm's archipelago is the easiest base for a weekend trip, while Dalarna and the west coast around Gothenburg feel further from everything. You can browse all glamping stays in Sweden here.

Frequently asked questions about glamping in Scandinavia

Late spring through early autumn (May to September) is high season with the longest days. Winter is worth considering too, especially in Norway and Sweden, since many stays have a wood stove or hot tub built for the cold.

Yes, it is a popular route. Denmark, Norway and Sweden are well connected by ferry, train and short flights, so a multi-country glamping trip is easier than it sounds, especially if you base yourself near a capital city and take day or weekend trips further out.

It helps, particularly outside the biggest cities, since many of the best stays are set out in nature rather than near public transport. A handful of stays are reachable by bus or boat, but a car gives you far more options.

Denmark uses the Danish krone, Norway the Norwegian krone, and Sweden the Swedish krona, three different currencies despite the similar names. Prices and booking are handled in the local currency on each stay.

Three countries, three very different kinds of nature, and all of it within easy reach of each other. Whichever one you start with, you will find comfort in nature without the compromises of traditional camping.

Happy travels! Best, Magnus 🏕️👋
