My childhood friend and I set off on a road trip through Norway with one special wish: to spend as much time outdoors in nature as possible. After a week in a tent, long hikes through the Norwegian mountains and plenty of fresh air, it felt like pure luxury to spend two nights in this Birdbox.
We spent both the evening and the morning slowing down, enjoying the calm and simply sitting and looking out over the landscape.
Our Unique Stay at Birdbox Hjellaakeren
When you see photos of Birdbox Hjellaakeren, it is hard to imagine that reality can live up to the beauty. But the view is simply breathtaking when you stand right in the middle of it, surrounded by mountains and fjord.
The little cabin with its grand view is the perfect setting for enjoying nature and slowing right down. Our hosts had provided both tea and coffee, so we could lean back and take in the view with a warm cup in hand.
Waking up inside a dream
Waking up to the view over Nordfjorden, surrounded by majestic mountains, was almost unreal. It was like opening your eyes in the middle of a dream, where nature was the first thing to meet us.
It was a stay that let us slow down, recharge, find calm and enjoy both nature and each other's company.
As another guest so beautifully put it: “Waking up here feels like living inside a painting where mountains whisper to the sea and time pauses just long enough for the soul to breath.”

A little more about the area
We mostly stayed by the Birdbox, where we slowed down, drank a cup of tea and got out our books. If you want to venture a little further, take a day trip to Naustdalskamben, a day hut in Stad municipality. It is an easy and lovely walk that rewards you with a beautiful view and a cosy hut, perfect for a rainy day.
Take a dip in the fjord, whatever the weather, and come back to Birdbox Hjellaakeren to warm up over a cup of coffee. Remember to buy a cinnamon bun from Minibakeriet on the way.
