In late June, my friend and I decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Copenhagen and head to Garbolund in North Zealand. The journey was easy and took only about an hour and a half by public transport directly from Copenhagen.
Garbolund is run with great love by the wonderful Jette, who welcomed us with open arms when we arrived. We had just one goal for the trip: to unwind, enjoy nature and treat ourselves to delicious food and wine.
The journey to Garbolund went smoothly, and it was so lovely to watch the landscape change from city to beautiful green surroundings as we approached the farm. The last leg of the trip, a short bus ride, dropped us off right in front of Garbolund's front door, making it super easy to get there.
Jette welcomed us and gave us a tour of the farm, sharing the fascinating history behind the place. The personal welcome made a difference and made us feel at home right away. Jette's passion for Garbolund was evident throughout our stay, and the service was simply top-notch.
We stayed in a lovely spacious room called Pilgrimsstuen, which had everything we needed, from morning coffee to a cosy nook where we could read and listen to the radio. The highlight was clearly the tapas board that Jette had prepared for us. It was filled with local, organic and homemade delicacies, which we thoroughly enjoyed while relaxing in the peaceful surroundings of the farm. Sitting there with a glass of Garbolund's own wine, surrounded by flowers and calm, was exactly what we had dreamed of.
It was Jette's personal welcome and passion, combined with the spacious Pilgrimsstuen room, that set the tone for the entire stay.
The tapas board with local, organic delicacies and a glass of the farm's own wine on the terrace was hard to beat.
There are lovely things to do. Take a walk along the beautiful butterfly trail, warmly recommended by Jette, and stop by the nearby church with a lovely view over the lake, through the small village with charming houses and lush gardens. Also spend time in Garbolund's farm shop, where you can buy handmade bowls, cups and the farm's own wine, and drop by the wine cellar, where the wine is made.
